Origins

Our story starts at the beginning of the 1990s when the Québec Ministry of Tourism established four committees – including the resort committee – to help raise Québec’s reputation on the international scene and position the province as a premier vacation destination.

 

At first

In the beginning, all resort establishments in Québec wanted to join the Québec Resorts & Country Inns association (now called Ôrigine artisans hôteliers). Unlike today however, there were no precise – or rigorous – selection criteria: membership was open to one and all, and the sheer numbers contributed to the association’s initial success.

 

Evolution

Changes in the market quickly compelled the association to start emphasizing quality and make it a priority in the selection criteria in order to attract, satisfy and instil loyalty in an increasingly more demanding clientele. At about the same time, Ôrigine artisans hôteliers committed to creating one unifying banner.

Also in the 1990s, Ôrigine artisans hôteliers became a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting member establishments with marketing activities that targeted the organized group travel market outside Québec.

 

Diversification

Over the years, the association has adapted and evolved according to changing trends, and has undertaken the task of developing a niche market for individual travellers. As part of these efforts, Ôrigine artisans hôteliers added a key educational aspect to its mandate; that is, helping members better understand the international market, create more attractive packages, etc.

That is how Ôrigine artisans hôteliers has built its community based on friendship and mutual help.
